We bought a 90 year old Connecticut beach house in 2009 and Skip has helped us rehab the entire house over the years including a new pool and pool house. Skip is very professional, trustworthy and hires excellent craftsman who do wonderful work. I have known Mr. Broom (and his reputation) for almost ten years during which time he restored my 1770 center-hall colonial in the Historic District of Middle Haddam.    He was recommended  by a colleague of mine at the Yale Law School while I was the Assistant to Yale's President.   During the restoration, Mr. Broom visited the project frequently to review the work being done by his carpenters, mason, electricians, plumbers et al.  He personally was always available to answer my questions, and follow up on any issues.  There couldn't have been a more efficient and pleasant transition from a house that was not maintained very well to a house that is meticulously restored as a National Landmark and a vital part of Middle Haddam's history.  H P Broom Housewright is praised by anyone who knows their professionalism, expertise, and caring manner, and those who appreciate and advocate historic preservation. — Starolis

In 1990, my Ob Gyn practice was growing and we needed a practice  location near the hospital. There was a  large brick late Victorian building about to fall down that was ideally located, crumbling and leaking, inhabited by racoons and squirrels but still handsome. I proposed to gut the building and make a home for my practice on the first 2 floors plus build on a large addition for the practice with an apartment on the third floor for me to live in. It was a daunting idea and several people said that the only person that they thought would agree to take on the project was Skip Broom. Skip agreed. H P Broom Housewright and their team of fine workmen gutted the building, rebuilt the structure and created a  lovely office and apartment right across the street from the hospital. It has been a great pleasure and learning experience to work with them and their carpenters and small army of electricians, plumbers, painters and roofers. While it was a predictably long hard and expensive project – it was worth the effort and every resource that we put into the building.   The word that I would describe for the entire project is workmanlike. I had a ball working with Skip and BJ  and Hondo et al. They did what they said they were going to do and they invariably did it  well.  Over time they became trusted brothers.  The result speaks for itself . It has been up and running for 30 years with hundreds of people coming through the building every day, pregnant, elderly , special needs, in wheel chairs , pushing strollers and stretchers. The building works and it is lovely.  And when there is a terrible freeze and a potential frozen sewer line, or the building needs to be repainted , I give Skip a call and we take care of the building. Over 35 years we have built and renovated many homes.  Working with Skip and his crew at H P Broom Housewright was our best and most creative project.
